Volunteers are an important part of Left Bank Books. We have twenty volunteers and each volunteer works a three hour shift a week. Volunteers shelve books, run the register, help customers, research books and receive orders on a regular basis. We rely on our volunteers to keep the business alive. Each volunteer brings their unique personality and experience into the collective, helping to diversify not only the people, but also the information available at the store.

As a weekly volunteer, you will receive a volunteer discount off books and merchandise at the store, not to mention all the great book store experience! Volunteers enjoy being a part of the community and getting hooked in with other like-minded folks. Volunteers are welcome to come to collective meetings and be a part of the decision making process, and whenever there is a paid position open in the collective, only volunteers are considered for the position.

Some people want to help out, but can't make a weekly commitment. If you have any special carpentry skills, or other trade skill that might be helpful on occasion, please let us know. We occasionally call on special volunteers to help with projects like building book shelves or repairing damage to the floor.

So you want to volunteer at Left Bank? First, swing by the store to get an application available at the counter. It's always best to drop your application by and talk to the folks at the store if we aren't too busy. Volunteer positions at Left Bank are in high demand, and it is not uncommon for months to go by before a spot opens up. Some of our volunteers have had the same shift for years. If you fill out an application and three months later you still want to volunteer but you haven't been called, don't worry! We haven't lost your application, but it would be a good idea to come by and let us know you are still interested!
