The Left Bank Books Collective is a collectively owned and
operated, community-based, not-for-profit project founded in 1973 in Seattle, WA's
historic Pike Place Market. The collective is composed of several
semi-independent projects, operating with a small paid staff and the aid of
numerous volunteers who generously donate their time and skills. We operate a retail store and sponsor and accept donations for a free book
service for people in prison in the United States: the Books to
Prisoners Project.
The bookstore carries over 10,000 new and used books, and
has close to 70 sections. We specialize in anti-authoritarian, anarchist,
independent, radical and small-press titles.
Our interests span the literary & scholarly spectrums. Our stock reflects the diversity in
perspective of all the individuals involved in our book project. We feature various sections such as
anarchism, fiction, feminist studies, immigration studies, race & culture
studies, "dis"ability & Deafness, poetry, graphic novels,
parenting, labor history, science fiction, sexuality, environmentalism, native
studies and much more.
